Industrial grade silica quartz: Benefits
Industrial grade silica quartz offers all of the necessary qualities—purity, robustness, and compatibility—to meet the semiconductor industry’s demanding requirements. Quartz is inert, has the capacity to withstand corrosive chemicals like acid, and, with a melting point of 1,600 °C, is resistant to high temperatures and thermal shock.
These qualities make quartz a more appropriate choice than other types of glass for:
- the components that support and protect silicon wafers during certain stages of manufacturing processes in industries ranging from microelectronics to photovoltaic solar equipment; and
- laboratory and process equipment for the chemical and defense industries, where conditions are often extreme and/or highly sensitive.
Like other types of glass, quartz can be recycled—which means that it can be cleaned, repaired, and melted down and reused—generating substantial cost savings.
